Most people do not understand that there is a difference between the Internet and the World Wide Web. In reality the Internet and the World Wide Web are two very different, but still related things.
The Internet is a massive collection of networks; it is what is called a networking infrastructure. The Internet is able to connect millions of computers from the all over the world together, meaning that any computer is able to communicate with any other computer through the use of the Internet. Information sent over the Internet is done so by using a variety of languages called protocols.
The World Wide Web is a way of accessing information through the use of the Internet. The World Wide Web uses a HTTP protocol to transmit its data. The Web also uses browsers, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari or Google Chrome to gain access to Web documents, known as Web pages that are connected to each other through hyperlinks. Web documents can contain things such as graphics, sound, text and videos. The World Wide Web is one of the many ways that information can be spread over the Internet.
So, the World Wide Web is just a part of the Internet, and so you should be able to clearly tell the difference between the two.
